What is MERIWA?

The Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia is a statutory body established by the Western Australian Government Minerals and Energy Research Act 1987, to encourage development of the minerals and energy industries within this State.    MERIWA fosters and promotes all aspects of minerals and fossil-fuel energy research, principally by granting up to 35% funding for worthwhile research projects (to A$80 000), and co-ordinating industry sponsorship of the remaining 65% funding for such projects. MERIWA also awards one or two scholarships annually for post-graduate research.

The MERIWA Secretariat includes an Executive Officer, a Project Co-ordinator, a Secretary and a Chief Finance Officer, all of whom are engaged on a part-time contract basis. The Department of Industry and Resources provides a range of support services, including accommodation at
