Oliver Tester 3rd Place and Bindhu Hollavanahalli 4th Place

WA’s first two representatives in the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge competed against students from the USA and Canada in San Diego on 17 June 2008. Find out more about their research here.

What is the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge of Western Australia?

The sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge of Western Australia is a brilliant opportunity for our next generation of talented scientists.

The BioGENEius Challenge of Western Australia will take some of the State’s top high school students from the classroom to the laboratory, giving them the opportunity to work alongside experienced scientists to complete their own biotechnology research project.

High school students in years 8 through to 12 and enrolled in any biology or science related units at a WA public or private school, are eligible to nominate to participate in the BioGENEius Challenge. Participating students spend a year undertaking a biotechnology research project with one of WA’s world class biotechnology scientists as mentor.

Each year, the two winners from WA will then compete against US and Canadian finalists in the International BioGENEius Challenge, held at the BIO International Conference in the United States of America.

The BioGENEius Challenge has run in the USA and Canada since 2002 and now WA is the first region outside of North America to participate.
