The Department of Industry and Resources manages numerous programs and awards that enhance and support the science and innovation environment in Western Australia.   An overview of the programs, awards and grants available though the Department are provided below. BioGENEius Challenge

Students participating in the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge spend a year undertaking a biotechnology research project with one of WA’s world class biotechnology scientists as their mentor.

The sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge is run in the USA by the Biotechnology Institute. Since 2002, the competition has developed to include six USA regional competitions and Canada.  WA is the seventh region and the first participant outside of North America.

The WA competition is run by the Department of Industry and Resources.

Inventor of the Year Awards

The Inventor of the Year Awards aim to promote and enhance a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across the public, private and education sectors in Western Australia. The categories are early stage, development, ready for market and schools (Kindergarten to Year 12).

Premier's Research Fellowship Program

The Western Australian Premier’s Research Fellowship Program seeks to attract excellent researchers to Western Australia (WA), from overseas or interstate, to conduct scientific research that is internationally competitive and of specific benefit to Western Australia.  The program will support scientific research activities with the potential to provide enhanced economic, environmental and social benefits to Western Australians.

Premier's Science Awards

The Premier’s Science Awards are a valued means of recognising excellence in science by raising awareness of science and technology endeavours in Western Australia (WA). The awards create a sense of community pride in science communication, education and research and provide Western Australians with an opportunity to publicly celebrate, encourage and reward the best scientists, science teachers and science communicators in WA.

Science and Innovation Studentship Award

The Science and Innovation Studentship Award is an annual grant program to provide an opportunity for research students to work on a project with a Western Australian (WA) private sector organisation of their choice for a period of 10 weeks.

WA Science Hall of Fame

Induction to the Hall of Fame recognises meritorious contribution to the science community over an extended period of time. Inductees receive a plaque but no financial reward.
