Western Australia's (WA) rich entrepreneurial spirit sees the biotechnology industry poised for ongoing growth. WA has developed exceptional expertise in mining biotechnological, agri-food, biological testing, therapeutics and drug discovery.

A global centre for the resources sector, WA has developed exceptional expertise in mining biotechnologies such as bio-leaching and hydrometallurgical processing. Added to this is the strength of our agricultural sector, which has sparked a wealth of activity in agricultural biotechnology, expecting to capabilities in agri-food, biological testing, therapeutics and drug discovery.

WA Biotechnology Industry Directory

WA's biotechnology industry comprises of more than 170 businesses and organisations, including core biotechnology companies, research organisations, and companies direction servicing the biotechnology industry.

Of these, WA is home to 85 core biotechnology companies, 48 biotechnology and 37 medical device, and the industry employs an estimated 550 personnel (Hopper & Thorburn, 2006 BioIndustry Review Australia and New Zealand).

State Government's Commitment
