About the Awards
The awards program, introduced in 2004, promotes research interaction between industry and academia, with a focus on issues essential to long-term development and modernisation of WA industry. It seeks to encourage creativity and innovation in science students/graduates, with students allowed to broaden their professional experience and gain valuable skills and experience in developing and applying their own ideas.
The Science and Innovation Studentship Award (SISA) provides $7,000.00 to each SISA Student Recipient to broaden their professional experience, and gain valuable skills and experience in developing and applying their own ideas. This is achieved through conducting a full-time 10-week project, during the university summer break (Dec – Feb), with a private sector Host Organisation.
There will be up to 20 Studentships available this year, each valued at $7000.00.

Are You Interested in Becoming a Host Organisation?
To be considered an eligible Host Organisation you must be currently operating within the Western Australian private sector, possess an ABN and/or ACN as applicable and be able to offer a research project of 10-weeks duration in a science field.
Please view the side bar for the list of Host Organisations who have expressed interest in hosting a student for the 2008-09 Science and Innovation Studentship Award program.
Expressions of Interest Process
Each ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) submitted to the Department of Industry and Resources by interested organisations before the close of submission date, 8 August 2008, will be added into a Host Organisation Project Details and Contact Registry. All information included in the EOI submitted by your company is added to the registry and will be distributed to Scholarship Officers at: Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame, and The University of Western Australia for distribution throughout their respective campuses. The Registry will also be available on the Studentship website.
Students interested in applying for a SISA to work on a 10-week project (between December to February) with your organisation are expected to contact your company to discuss project details and formulate a 3-page project proposal.
The selection process will be competitive with up to 20 Studentships available this year, each valued at $7,000. Students need to finalise project details and submit a 3-page project proposal as part of their SISA Application.
